Review

this is less of a review and more of a collection of disjointed thoughts

 

• Station To Station: An atmospheric opener, dark and droning instruments lead you into the song, elements of funk seep into the song towards the end yet it doesn't abandon the sombre feeling it started with.

 

• Golden Years: Funky and repetitive tune that doesn't overstay its welcome, the vocal deliveries are beautiful and reminiscent of Bowie's previous record (Young Americans).

 

• Word on a Wing: A gentle yet emotionally and lyrically packed song that gracefully ascends to its climax.

 

• TVC15: A fantastic groovy song, serves as a great relief from the emotionally packed first half of the album although it feels a bit dragged.

 

• Stay: My least favourite song on the album, an ambitious work that suffers from trying to balance too many clashing elements especially the vocals and melody, but the outro guitars are awesome.

 

• Wild Is the Wind: A lovely rendition of Nina Simone’s Wild Is the Wind, warm and elegant vocals, lush instrumentals, and overall great production, one of my favourite songs ever.
